WHOLE oat groats vs steel cut confusion???

I was using steel cut oats previously. Then, I found out whole groats were in the market. Assuming that WHOLE must be better to control blood sugar than steel-cut (if rolled is less ideal to achieve the same purpose).

Now, I saw an online question and answer that actually STEEL-CUT is BETTER than the whole!!!!

What's your input? thanks

  1. Hi . I am not a food expert, but I did a bit of light research and the consensus is that steel-cut oats are lower on the gylcemic index. It's interesting because it is all about the way they are cut and cooked. Here is a wonderful article from the Michigan State that explains it far better than I can: https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/steel_cut_oats_are_a_nutrient_rich_way_to_start_your_day. Honestly, though, the difference is not huge and rolled oats can be more convenient. If you are more likely to prepare the rolled oats than the steel-cut oats, that might make rolled oats a better choice for you. I hope this helps. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Lori. Thanks. Yes, it makes sense; it's not huge difference. I don't need to worry about that much. 😀
