Understanding carbs.

I have never had anyone explain just what carbs are and how to know how much of them to eat. My Dr. tells me not to eat fruits, but yet, I am told I need to eat Fruits and Vegies. Even some vegetables are carbs. I am confused. Someone needs to help us know how to eat healthy and understand what are carbs and how much or how little we can eat at each meal. Thank you. Evelyn

  1. Thank you for sharing and reaching out. Understanding the nuances of a carbohydrate-conscious diet can feel complicated. I'd encourage you to start small and start with some small impactful changes. Fruit and veggies are healthy! Yes, fruit does contain carbohydrates but it also has vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. Limiting your portion of fruit can be helpful but it's still going to be a better choice than cake, cookies or candy. Consider speaking with a registered dietitian to help you plan some meals and menus that would work well for you.
