Prediabetic 5 years but getting worse healthwise

Hi currently under review by my gp as getting lots of diabetic symptoms. Been prediabetic scince 2018 after having daughter, I'm 44 now BTW was 38 at the time. I had a gtt when pregnant and came back just 0.1 off the gestational diabetes diagnoses. So I think I actualy had it tbh. I've averaged around 42 to 45 on hba1c. Home testing has given good guidance on foods to avoid or minimise in meals. Sometimes I've tested 12 after meals or around that. I sleep terribly as get insomnia, I also had underactive thyroid diagnosed after birth and scince then its so incredibly hard to lose weight. I'm 5ft 1 and nearly 13 stone, I used to always be 7 and a half, trued keto but made me ill, Dr said it's not for evryone so just try go cut carbs down now. Thing is I was in a domestically violent marriage of 2 years up until 2015 when I got out. Lost my sister son in law and cousin to suicide in past 10 years to. Stress has been mega in my life and used to go into fight or flight mode sometimes up to 3 times day, I'm sure this had big impact on my pancreas and glands etc exhausting them. Wondering if all that has had an impact on my body making me not process sugars properly. I get thrush and yeast infections, tired all the time, dry mouth etc, Dr said few years ago I had insulin resistance. Hi BTW I'm new here.

  1. Meant 20 years marriage nor 2 x

    1. Welcome to the community, ! I am so glad you found us and I am thrilled you got out of that marriage. My heart aches for your losses. Stress can be a huge trigger for autoimmune diseases and it sounds like you have had your share of it. Death by suicide can be extremely difficult to process and you have lots three people who were close to you that way. That must have had a profound impact on you mentally and physically. Did you ever seek out any therapy after all that you have been through? If not, you might find it helpful. Physical health and mental health as so closely tied. Talking out your emotions might help you feel better physically.
Do you see an endocrinologist for your thyroid? If so, you might want to ask your endocrinologist to take over your prediabetes care as well. I am glad you are addressing the prediabetes now rather than waiting for it to get worse. You can do a lot now to protect your future health. Are you taking any medication for your thyroid? When you have had a disease for that long, it is easy to remain on the same treatment and let new advances in medicine pass you by. An endocrinologist might have ideas about different thyroid treatments that will improve your metabolism and help improve your insulin resistance.
Have you ever consulted with a dietician who specializes in diabetes? A dietician might be able to help you develop an eating plans that reduces your overall calorie intake in a way that keeps your blood sugar low without leaving you hungry all the time. Keto is definitely not for everyone and it might not be a good long-term solution for diabetes. I got horrible sick on Keto as well. Here is an article about weight loss and diabetes that might interest you: https://type2diabetes.com/diet-nutrition/weight-loss-diets. Try not to be in too much of a hurry. Weight loss would be great, but maintaining your weight is a big achievement as well. I hope this helps and that others chime in with some ideas and advice.
