Is There A Link Between Osteoarthritis And Type 2 Diabetes?

I was recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis. I have had diabetes for years but managed to keep it under control. I was even allowed to stop my medication for a few months, but my numbers started creeping back up.

I was doing some research and saw that being overweight is a big culprit for this. It seems like being overweight controls a big part of our life.

I wanted to think that it was old age, but according to my doctor, this is not the case. She said that with my other chronic illness, there are changes in the tissue that can cause a breakdown. It takes years to get to this point.

My first question is -do you think obesity causes a lot of our problems? If you have osteoarthritis and type 2 diabetes, what are some tips you can share with us?

We would love to hear from you.

  1. I have also been diagnosed with OA but, so , not too much impact on my life. I have had both trigger thumbs and fixed and left wrist carpel tunnel. Not sure if either is impacted by the AO but I know the trigger finger is more frequent in T2D. That I googled.

    1. I am glad the surgery was successful, . I hope you don't have any further symptoms in your hands or wrists. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
