Eating Fats

Hello,

I’m prediabetic and I don’t currently own a device to track my BS. I’m doing lots of reading online and in books about this awful disease and I wonder if anyone in this group has tested from a fasting state eating fat alone such as saturated or mono e.g. butter or a spoonful of olive oil? I’ve read that fats do not increase insulin and while we can’t test our insulin numbers we can test our BG. I hope to be able to get my hands on CGM but not sure that my medical insurance would cover it at this time. Any feedback you may have on this is much appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Hi there - Thanks for posting your questions! We do have a variety of articles available on fats and how they affect blood glucose. Check out these articles here for more info:"Good Fats vs Bad Fats and How to Know the Difference" at https://type2diabetes.com/nutrition/good-fats-vs-bad-fats-and-how-to-know-the-difference, and " How to Eat More Healthy Fats": https://type2diabetes.com/nutrition/how-to-eat-more-healthy-fats.

It is also my hope that other community members will chime in soon with their own experience using a CGM. I don't have any personal experience with them, but I bet someone around here does 😁. You can also read about the different types of CGMs here: https://type2diabetes.com/living-with-t2d/types-of-continuous-glucose-monitors.

Hope that helps get you started on the right track! Sounds like you've been doing a lot of research already, which is great.
