Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal

Especially during the winter months, a warm bowl of oatmeal for breakfast can be a quick, easy and healthy option to start off the day. Oatmeal is a good source of fiber and the balance of carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats in this recipe will fill you up, and may keep your post meal blood glucose levels within target range. Having just plain oatmeal every day may get a little boring, so try spicing it up with this yummy variation!

Serving size: 1 bowl


  • ½ cup of dry oats
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 tbsp. of ground flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp. of peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons of Cacao powder


  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl
  2. Microwave for 1 ½ to 2 minutes
  3. Enjoy

Similar to all foods, people with diabetes may respond differently when consuming various carbohydrates and amounts, so try checking a two hour blood glucose level to see if this will fit with your meal plan.
