New Lower Carb Dessert Ideas
Do you have a sweet tooth? If you have diabetes, then chances are you may be avoiding or limiting some of your favorite treats. Before being diagnosed with diabetes you may have found yourself eating dessert on a daily basis. If you find that you are still longing for a sweet treat but don’t want all the sugar/carbs that come with those treats, consider trying one the following lower carb dessert ideas. Each recipe has 10 grams of carbohydrate or less per serving.
Strawberry Cheese Cake Alternative:
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp. cream cheese*
- 3/4 cup halved strawberries
Directions:
- Wash and dry strawberries
- Dip strawberries into cream cheese
Nutrition:
- Calories: 136
- Carb: 10 grams
- Fiber: 2 grams
- Protein: 3 grams
- Fat: 10 grams
Key Lime Pie Alternative
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup sugar free Lime Jell-O
- 2 tbsp. full fat whip cream topping
Nutrition:
- Calories: 25
- Carb: 1 gram
- Fiber: 0 gram
- Protein: 1 gram
- Fat: 1 gram
Peanut Butter Cup Alternative
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp. crunchy peanut butter*
- 2 tsp. chocolate peanut butter powder*
Directions:
- Roll each tablespoon of peanut butter into a ball
- Roll each ball of peanut butter in peanut butter powder
- Place in refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours

- Carb: 10 grams
- Fiber: 3 grams
- Protein: 8 grams
- Fat: 17 grams
The Un-Jelly Donut:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup 2% milkfat cottage cheese*
- 1 tbsp. sugar free strawberry jam*
Directions:
- Mix jam into cottage cheese

- Carb: 9 grams
- Fiber: 0 grams
- Protein: 13 grams
- Fat: 3 grams
Chocolate Banana Milk Shake
Ingredients:
- 6 ounces (3/4 cup) unsweetened almond chocolate milk*
- 1/3 small banana (small banana: 6 to 7 inches long)
- 1/2 cup crushed ice
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients into blender
- Pulse for 30 to 60 seconds, until all ingredients combined

- Calories: 64
- Carb: 10 grams
- Fiber: 2 grams
- Protein: 2 grams
- Fat: 3 grams
Candied Almonds
Ingredients (recipe makes 6 servings):
- 1 cup almonds
- 2 tbsp. Splenda Sugar Blend
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
Directions:
- Combine Splenda Sugar Blend, water and cinnamon in saucepan
- Place on medium heat
- Bring to boil
- Add almonds to saucepan
- Mix almonds until liquid dissolves
- Pour coated almonds on to baking sheet, covered with wax paper
- Let cool for 10-15 minutes

- Fiber: 3 grams
- Protein: 5 grams
- Fat: 12 grams
Raspberries, cheese and chocolate syrup
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup raspberries
- 1 tsp. sugar free chocolate syrup
Directions:
- Wash and dry raspberries
- Place raspberries on top of ricotta cheese
- Drizzle with sugar free chocolate syrup
Nutrition:
- Calories: 125
- Carb: 10 grams
- Fiber: 4 grams
- Protein: 6 grams
- Fat: 7 grams
